Letâs set the scene: A beautiful wedding in Cana of Galilee. The music is playing, the guests are laughing, and the wine is flowing⌠until plot twist â the wine runs out. In first-century Israel, this is not just a party foul â it’s a full-on social disaster. But guess whoâs on the guest list?

1. Itâs always a good idea to invite Jesus.
This couple didnât realize how genius their wedding guest list really was. You can invite Jesus for spiritual reasons, sure â but letâs be honest: He also happens to be really good in a crisis. The wine ran out, the party was teetering on disaster, but Mary (Jesusâ mother) knew exactly who to turn to. When âwhatever-you-haveâ runs out â your energy, your patience, your resources â who better to call than the One who turns empty into overflowing?

2. When you see the word âwhateverâ in the Scriptures, donât roll your eyes.
Mary, the ultimate Jewish mom, leans in and tells the servants, âDo whatever He tells you.â Now letâs be real â that word âwhateverâ in Scripture doesnât mean âjust do your best.â It means get ready for the extraordinary. When Jesus gives an instruction, youâre not signing up for something basic â youâre stepping into the miraculous. Turning water into wine? Thatâs just Jesusâ way of saying: You havenât seen anything yet.
3. Letâs talk about the waterpots.
Jesus didnât ask for a wine barrel. He pointed to six giant waterpots â the kind used for washing dirty feet. Not exactly a Sommelierâs dream. These were big, heavy, and ordinary. And yet, Jesus had the servants fill them to the brim. No shortcuts. No âjust enough.â Itâs as if Jesus was saying, âEven your dirtiest containers can be filled with divine purpose â if youâll give Me room.â

4. The main point is in Verse 5: âWhatever He tells you to do, do it.â
Thatâs it. Thatâs the secret sauce. Want to see transformation? Obey. Even if it sounds strange. Even if it means lugging gallons of water around at a wedding. Miracles often start with small, obedient steps. The water didnât become wine in the pot â it happened in the pouring. If the servants hadnât obeyed, the guests wouldâve never tasted heaven in a cup.
So the next time your plans run dry, or life feels like one big empty waterpot, remember:
Invite Jesus in, expect the extraordinary, fill your jars to the brim, and obey what He says.
